Many are called, few are chosen. Are all pastor truly called by God?, is your own pastor truly called by God or by men? Have you ever asked “why do people become pastor”?. We would anwer your questions here.
It is not unknown to any one that has become a christian(perhaps by religion or encounter) that once a young man or lady becomes deveoted in the things of the spirit, fast and pray on his/her own accord, attend every church service and show zeal for God, people of the same household of God would start calling such a person Pastor. But does that makes one a pastor?
Straight to the topic we want to reflect on. Yea, three reasons why people become Pastor. I would categorize it into three or more sub headings, for easy assimilation.
1. The Voice of Men
The voice of men contributes to why people become pastor. In the intro, I slightly emphasized on church members tends to call a young man or lady “Pastor” because he/she is devoted in the things of the spirit.
In today’s Christianity, once a young man or woman keeps his/her way pure and expressing his/her love for God, the next thing is that you would see almost everyone calling such a brother/sister “Pastor”. There is a saying that ‘the voice of men is the voice of God”, however, that is arguable. Atimes, and in most cases the voice of men differs from the voice of God. The voice of men on this matter would always speak based on what they see, but God’s call is divine and if he has not called someone, even if men call him “Apostle, pastor or Evangelist”, God would still not call him.
Some church people would even start prophesying/advising the serious young brother or sister that God has called him and that he/her should enroll in the the seminary school. The young brother might start considering it and eventually agree to becoming a cleric. This still does not guarantee that God called him
Some people become pastor out of laziness. I heard someone in market while doing hectic work say “if you see what we see, you would carry Bible”. Carry Bible in this context means becoming pastor.
People that become pastor out of laziness is mostly seen in popular churches that pay their pastors salary, irrespective of whether the church they are in charge grows or not.
Additionally, laziness comes in different form; Some do not plan for their life while they were very young. So, the option seemingly left when they are not that young and duty calls is to become a pastor.
Apostle Johnson Suleman once testified that he came to a Pastor’s conference and was shocked at the large number of Pastors in the conference, he asked God, “are all these people pastors?”, God told him that over 50% of people there were not called by HIM.
The Voice of God
The voice of God which in this context signifies God’s call is also the reason people become pastor. God does call people, God cannot work on this earth except there is a man HE would use.
God calls people so that HE would use them into establishing the ways of the Kingdom here on earth(Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven).
If God calls you brother or sister, it is final and a thing of honour, please avail yourself to HIM.
Some people see pastors that enjoy affluence, and they covet to become like them. You must have heard of pastors who spend the church fund lavishly and could not give any account. This are the kind of people Bible said their Belly has become their god. Becoming a pastor for this reason is symbol of selfishness and greed.
The Love For God
Some brothers love God so much that they their love for God turned them into a pastor. This is not bad anyway. However, we should understand that you must not necessary be a pastor before you work for God, You can work for God and win souls, heal the sick without being a pastor. In the church of the Apostles, Deacons like Stephen worked in the miraculous.
Conclusively, being called by God is an honor; however, no one should take such honour upon himself except called by God. Not even a prophet or prayer band is qualified to tell you you are called, if you do not hear it from God, then you are not or have not being called.
