The issue of feminism has been on for a while and feminism, if rightly channeled, is a good one but it is so sad that people who just want to go by the name ‘Feminists’ have not even taken enough time to study the subject. Going beyond this, we now have a new set of people all over, they call themselves Christian Feminists and this is what I would like to address in this post. Come with me.
Reading through the Bible, you will notice that the male gender, the pronouns relating to the male: he, him, etc were more prevalent and in most cases, both genders were addressed as ‘man’, although the first gender distinction and differentiation came in Genesis where the Bible said: “… male and female created He them.”
Checking the genealogy of the Bible, the males were most addressed and in cases where the female name is mentioned, it most likely is because she did something that is worth it. The story is different in the Old testament and the New Testament parts of the Bible.
Starting from the Old Testament, the culture of Israel, God’s chosen people, as at that time is that the male children (not even all of them) were addressed. I want to explain this as much as I can, please read patiently. In the culture back then, only the male child that continues the family line is majorly mentioned. Let us start from Adam and Eve. Because Cain and Abel were the first set of children ever produced and what happened to them, their names were mentioned. Was the name of Adam and Eve’s female children mentioned? Not exactly. Fast forward to Abraham. He had a lot of children, so much, but only the names of the prominent males were mentioned, not all of his male children were mentioned and his wives at the point he married them had their names mentioned too. Either the female does something, or she is a wife or there is a situation that necessitated the mentioning of her name in the Bible. This doesn’t mean they are not seen as important, rather because the female really didn’t do something that necessitated the mentioning of her name and even at that, the Bible is a book filled with several events and the name of every single person encountered can obviously not be penned down. Let us look at Jacob, it was recorded that he had sons, does it mean he has no daughter? No, he does.
My point is the Bible can’t possibly mention everybody’s name, so as some females names were not mentioned, same way some male’s name were not mentioned. Look at Mariam, the first woman that sang in the Bible, her name was mentioned. Deborah, Jezebel, Rebecca etc, their names were mentioned.
Going to the New Testament, Mary started as the first female prominently recorded. Then Elizabeth. These women did great exploits, they were divinely orchestrated and made by God for the purpose they fulfilled. The women around Jesus’ ministry also had their names mentioned, same with Paul. The Marys in the Bible were so prominent. I’ll stop at that for now.
Now, am I saying that it is all about their names being mentioned? No! Even in the way of life of both the old and new testament, the women respected and reverenced their husbands. Sarah called Abraham her ‘Lord’!
Most importantly, this is what I want you to specifically understand, there is no gender difference for mediocrity in the Bible. When you check for the word man, in cases like that, it means human generally. God doesn’t see women as less because He created us all in His image, for His pleasure, wonderfully and fearfully. The fact that the female came out of the man doesn’t mean she is less than the man. God made the man, He created the female. God employed His creative skills while creating the female. He knew He had to bring the curves, He knew she had to be protected, He knew this special creation of His has to be loved. God used His divine artistic skills while creating the female.
Jesus’ view of woman is way bigger than what feminism has to offer. You can read about that here: JESUS view on feminism
Lastly, facing the Christian feminism thing, it is absolutely unheard. Were you taught that in the Bible? If you are indeed a Christian and not a church-goer and you interpret the Scripture as helped by the Holy Ghost, you would understand that as a woman is meant to submit to her husband, same way is the husband meant to love her as Christ loves the Church. Do you know how much Christ loves the church? Do you know so much that He has in store for the church? Do you know how much He has revealed to the church? Same way is a true, Christian, godly man meant to love His wife.
No reasonable female should sink deep into the ocean of depression and use Christian feminism as the false tag, no! Most ladies resort to being Christian feminists because they probably had relationships with some Christian brothers and it didn’t work out, were from homes with ill marital backgrounds where their parents always had tussles or they had just built resolutions in their hearts from what they have heard everywhere.
You should feel on top of the world and live as the Divine creation of God that you are, for any man in Christ, He is a new creation, don’t decide to fight for people and see being a feminist as the best way.
Dear Christian sister, go to God, let Him help your heart. You will find the right man, your relationship will work out, and I know by then, you will gladly submit to your husband as the church submits to Christ.
